Loon Mountain

Loon Mountain

60 Loon Mountain Road Lincoln, NH 03251 603 745 8100 website: http://loonmtn.com
Ranked No. 7 overall by readers in our 2010 Resort Guide

Ever-popular Loon has broken out of its perennial Miss Congeniality role and leapt into the East’s Top 10. For years, Boston families have prized its friendly employees, its children’s terrain park and its great family programs. They appreciate the “excellent lifts” and “variety of trails.” Long cruisers are still Loon’s forte, but last season’s addition of steep and snaking Ripsaw boosted its expert appeal. Investments in snowmaking and grooming have delivered “great conditions, despite foul-weather challenges,” and the new South Peak trails provide a different vantage point, broadening Loon’s “awesome” White Mountain views. Crowding remains a problem, a factor of its No. 1–ranked accessibility. Weekend warriors coupled with “too many trail intersections” are “Line Mountain’s” Achilles’ heel. But Loon remains “a  marvelous place to take the family,” and the trails etched on the South Peak master plan promise “the potential for good things.”

/ What’s New / Construction of two additional trails on South Peak (for 2010–11 season)

/ Don’t Miss / Power your day with the legendary banana bread French toast at the Sunny Day Diner, a genuine 1958 Master brand dining car in Lincoln.

/ Mandatory Run / Speakeasy, a classic narrow cruiser that winds down Loon Peak’s periphery
