Arapahoe Basin, CO — November 12, 2002 — Although the new snowmaking system at Arapahoe Basin has yet to produce its first flake of snow (yet, seems to be workingperfectly), A-Basin is pleased to announce its opening on Saturday, November 16. This date is a week and a half earlier than planned due to record snowfall.

Snowfall accumulation for October was 45" compared to last year's 3" and a twenty year average of 19". As of November 12, A-Basin has received over 7 1/2 feet of snow thisseason and more precipitation is expected this weekend. A-Basin has received snow 18 out of the last 21 days.

For A-Basin's earliest opening in ten years, ski area officials hope to open 75% of its terrain on Saturday. The Molly Hogan, Exhibition and Lenawee Mountain chair lifts willserve 34 runs covering 365 acres on a 30" midway base. Skiers and boarders can look forward to an early season run down Slalom Slope, Lenawee Parks, Norway, CorniceWest Wall, Standard or 13 Cornices. Additional terrain and lift openings will be announced as soon as conditions warrant.

Snowmaking ?? The early season snowfall has helped create a higher streamflow level in the North Fork of the Snake River where water is being diverted into a holding pondfor snowmaking. The snow guns will still have a chance to be tested and used this fall as soon as the system is completed. The additional man-made snow will help thebase last longer into early summer.

The lifts will open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday (9:00 a.m. weekdays). Lift ticket prices starting November 16 will be $31 for adults and $15 for children ages 6 —14. All skier services will be available including ski school, rental shop, retail shop, cafeteria and bar.

The Arapahoe Basin "Bonus Pass is available through December 8, 2002 or while supplies last. The season pass can be purchased for $199 and includes fivenon-transferable tickets to Keystone or Breckenridge anytime during the 2002-03 ski season (one ticket can even be used at Vail or Beaver Creek). Call 1-888-ARAPAHO, ext.2 for additional information on tickets and season passes or stop by the Season Pass office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. any day of the week.
