Last season was a big one for Winter Park. The first phase of the Village at Winter Park opened with new lodging, dining and shops. And skiers finally got to enjoy the benefits of five years and $40 million worth of on-mountain upgrades, namely four new lifts (Eagle Wind, Panoramic Express, Super Gauge Express and the Village Cabriolet) that make navigating this 3,078—acre giant much more pleasant. This year the resort gives skiers a chance to catch up on the improvements. “A sense of the past yet a feel for the future,” says one reader of the resort’s new vibe. This season brings a new emphasis on family programs, with Parent's Night Out, an evening program for kids; Winter Parcade, a teen hangout and gaming joint; and free activities in the village. But enough about the new. It’s the old—i.e., the terrain—that keeps skiers coming back. “Best moguls in the USA.” And Parsenn Bowl, at 12,060 feet, “rocks.” But despite several new hotels, restaurants and bars, lodging and dining still ran low in the polls. Maybe this year is the perfect time for some catching up.
