Say "Deer Valley" and people automatically think fine food and white-glove service. And Deer Valley does serve up a seamless and luxurious experience. But don't let that fool you into thinking Deer Valley isn't hardcore. Its natural assets are burly enough to satisfy expert skiers in winter and the world's best mountain bikers come summer. That's why the NORBA (National Off-Road Bicycle Association) series annually makes a stop here (July 26-30). While pros on this circuit come to compete on super-technical Intimidator, less experienced riders will be glad to know they can hop the Sterling chairlift to access Deer Valley's more than 50 miles of clearly marked beginner and intermediate bike trails. Kids can hone their riding skills at the Children's Adventure Camp (800-424-3337), or opt to go swimming, hiking or participate in team-oriented sports. For a less-taxing excursion into the backcountry, call Deer Valley Stables (800-558-3337; 435-649-1000), which leads both meal and trail rides that make it easy to explore the Rockies en famille. When you're done hoofing it through aspen groves and fields of lupine, trade your mountainwear for streetwear and hop the free shuttle to Park City's historic Main Street. You'll find shopping and dining that have been strongly influenced by the Sundance Film Festival (read: Hollywood). Boutiques (check out Great Garb) and eateries (Chimayo is divine) are top-notch with prices to match. But then again, this is a vacation, so why not treat yourself as well as Deer Valley does and splurge?
