posted: 01/01/2000

SPINDLERUV MLYN, Czech Republic (March 2) — Olympic aerials champion and newly crowned world champ Alisa Camplin of Australia and Dmitry Arkhipov of Russia, who won the men's gold medal at Worlds a month ago, added the World Cup aerials title to their haul for the season Sunday night.

Meanwhile, three U.S. men — led by Olympic medalist Joe Pack (Park City, UT) in third place — broke into the top six. Ryan St. Onge (Winter Park, CO) was fifth, edging Jeret "Speedy" Peterson (Boise, ID), who was sixth, by .03. Top U.S. woman was Kate Reed (Montrose, CO) in eighth place with Kelly Hilliman (Tonawanda, NY) 10th.

Camplin was third behind Evelyne Leu of Switzerland to overtake teammate Lydia Ierodiaconou in the second nighttime meet in 24 hours. Camplin's boyfriend, Steve Omischl of Canada, won the men's contest and when teammate Jeff Bean, the men's leader heading into the final competition, skidded to 14th, Arkhipov clinched the men's World Cup title.

Canada clinched the Nations Cup, symbolic of overall team supremacy on the World Cup, compiling 7,344 points to 6,800 for the USA.
