Boulder, CO, Dec. 11, 2000¿-Treat yourself to an early Christmas present with tickets to the 2002 Winter Olympics. But act quickly, because the first round of ticket sales for the Winter Games in Salt Lake will be cut off Tuesday at midnight, Mountain Standard Time (MST).
Due to the Salt Lake Olympic Committee's (SLOC) random-selection process, any order received by midnight Tuesday has the same chance of being filled as those requested on any previous date since sales began on October 10. Although premium ticket packages will remain available after the Tuesday deadline, it will be much harder to get tickets for most events after that date.
"If they don't get their order in by December 12, they'll miss out on a lot of sports," said SLOC president Mitt Romney.
Having the most ticket requests thus far, approximately 107,000, figure skating may be the hardest sport to get into. The next most requested sports are men's and women's hockey, followed by ski jumping, cross-country skiing, freestyle aerials, snowboarding, bobsledding and downhill skiing, respectively.
Ticket request forms are available on the Internet at http://www.saltlake2002.com/ or by phone at 1-800-TICKETS. The extended hours for the last two days of ticket requests are 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. MST. Payment in full is required with request submissions and requests exceeding ticket availability will be awarded via a random-selection process in February 2001.
