There's no excuse for not learning to snowboard Dec. 13-14 at Ski Windham, N.Y. The nationwide Mountain Dew Snowboard Festival makes its only Eastern stop that weekend, offering free lessons and rental equipment for beginners.

There's even free use of butt pads, knee pads and wrist guards to minimize those inevitable hard-knocks of learning. Experienced riders get free demos on a large stock of high-end boards and step-in bindings. All ages are welcome¿to date, the youngest participant has been 6, the oldest 84¿but you must have ID and a credit card to leave a $500 deposit for equipment. Minors must have an adult sign a release on-site.

Waterville Slashes Kids Prices
Waterville believes in giving families a break. Lift ticket prices for kids ages 6-12 have been slashed to $10 everyday at Waterville Valley, N.H. "All resorts pay lip service to growing skiing," said the resort's general manager Tom Day, "but we're putting our money where our mouth is."
