Rahlves Checks On Super Series

Snowbasin, UT, Feb. 9, 2001--Newly crowned world super G champion Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) may be racing Sunday during the Chevy Truck Super Series super G on the 2002 Olympic course at Snowbasin Ski Area.

He is to arrive Friday night in Salt Lake City from the World Alpine Championships in St. Anton, Austria, where Rahlvescollected the gold medal in SG and was fifth in downhill.

"I hope it skis a little slower than it runs," he said before leaving St. Anton. "When we ran down the run last September, itwas pretty quick. There's a lot of terrain, a lot of twists and turns and rolls...I'm pretty excited about skiing the course; itshould be great."

Rahlves said he would decide when he got to Snowbasin about racing. Three races at the championships plus the travelmade him a bit weary, he said, but the chance to ski Snowbasin had him "psyched." He planned to train on the hill in thecoming week before catching some down time at home in preparation for the World Cup races Feb. 23-25 at the Olympicvenue.

Promising young skiers such as Marco Sullivan (Tahoe City, CA) and veteran racers such as Chris Puckett (Boulder, CO) andWisi Betschart (Heavenly, CA) will compete in downhills and the super G at Snowbasin. The schedule:

-Fri., February 9 -- DH Races (2) on the Olympic DH Course at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

-Sun., February 11-- SG Race on the Olympic SG Course at 10:00 a.m.
