Rossland, BC - (Press Release) - Red Resort announced today its winter season will begin on Thurs., Nov. 24, with operations on the Red and Silverlode chairs, the T-Bar and the Red Carpet beginner ski area. Operating hours at Red will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the week, weather permitting.  Special lift ticket prices are being offered during the first seven days of operation with a one-day adult lift ticket priced at $31 CDN. ($27 US), youth (13-18 years) $25 CDN ($21.75 US), and juniors (7-12 years) $17 CDN ($14.75 US).

Red, which currently has an alpine snow depth of 100 cm (39 in.) had previously planned to open on Sat., Dec. 3, before a recent storm dumped some 2 feet of dry, fluffy snow on the Monashee Mountain Range in southeastern British Columbia.

"If the weather continues to hold, we will open the entire resort on December 2, which will be one of the earliest full-mountain openings in twenty-five years, said Vice President of Operations Jim Greene. "Right now the long-range forecast is very encouraging for the Rossland area.

"This is great news to all our guests who can't wait to hit the mountain and enjoy some of the world's finest terrain, added Howard Katkov, owner of Red Resort and president of Red Mountain Ventures. "It looks like the Farmer's Almanac and the heavy local huckleberry harvest were right on in their prediction of a cold, wet winter season.

In addition to 83 total runs and some 640 hectares (1,585 acres) of varied skiable terrain, visitors will enjoy a host of new on-mountain offerings at Red this season, including an expanded special events calendar, enhanced terrain park features, and improved facilities in Red's quickly developing base area.

Red, located only 10 minutes from the Canada/U.S. border, started construction this summer on the new, 67-unit Slalom Creek luxury condominium slated for completion in the winter of 2006/07.  The ski-in / ski-out condominium project will feature well-appointed 2- and 3-bedroom units ranging from 1,200 square feet to 1,500 square feet (111 square meters to 140 square meters).  Slalom Creek will also include spacious common areas and a private, secure 85-stall underground parking garage, making it easier for residents and their guests to enjoy Red's world-renowned terrain and on-mountain destination activities. Slalom Creek is nearly 50% sold-out.  In addition, Red Resort Properties, a division of Red Resort, will be representing two new projects: Morning Star and Iron Horse.  These two projects will offer 18 mountain view condominiums each.

In addition to the ongoing village expansion, visitors to Red this season will discover an improved terrain park that has been updated with several new features for skiers and riders of various skill levels. Red Resort is also opening a refurbished 60 year-old cabin located at the base area for private dining.  The "Deane cabin will host functions for groups of up to 25 people and will feature après-ski parties and fine dining.  And Red's special-event schedule has been fortified with several exciting new spectator and social activities, including the Molson Canadian Freeskiing Championships (Jan. 12-15), the B.C. Winter Games (Feb. 23-26), and the Slush Cup and Dummy Downhill (Apr. 2), to name just a few.

The popular Red Express shuttle, which last season began offering round-trip ground transportation between Red Resort and Spokane International Airport, will now also be available to visitors flying into the nearby southeastern British Columbia airports in Kelowna, Castlegar and Trail.

This winter, a new, local snowcatskiing operation — Big Red Cats will provide Red guests with access to more than nearly 7,300 hectares (18,000 acres) of powder-filled backcountry terrain through its new guided cat-service located just 10 minutes from the resort's base area. Led by ex-Australian Ski Team member Kieren Gaul, Big Red Cats is available to intermediate, advanced and expert skiers andd riders.
