Mammoth Lakes, Feb. 17 (AP) - A memorial service is planned later this week for a California man who died in an out-of-bounds skiing accident near Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.
The body of Thomas Andrew Pertzborn, 32, was found Friday at the bottom of a 400-foot cliff near Twin Lakes, the Mono County Sheriff's Office said.
Michael Pertzborn of Reno described his brother as a well-known extreme skier who loved to play hard.
"He was a die-hard extreme skier and mountain biker and wake boarder," he said. "He went out the way he lived his life."
Pertzborn was skiing with a group of friends outside the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area on Thursday afternoon in an area called Dragon's Tail, deputies said.
His body was found the next day.
An autopsy determined he died of severe head and internal injuries and multiple broken bones, authorities said.
A native of Madison, Wis., Pertzborn moved to Lake Tahoe to"become the ski god,"his brother said. He worked as a security guard at the Squaw Valley ski resort.
Pertzborns friends and family members are planning a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the base of the Squaw Valley tram, Michael Pertzborn said.
