OLYMPIC VALLEY, CA - (News Release) - A spectacular fireworks show and a mountain of summer events and activities are all part of Squaw Valley USA's Independence Day Celebration that make Squaw Valley the premiere destination for Tahoe residents and visitors the weekend of July 1-4, 2006.

This unique four-day '4th of July' celebration offers a one-stop family experience complete with a picturesque summer Sierra setting, easy access and convenient parking. The highlight of the weekend is Monday evening's Fireworks Extravaganza. Presented by the Squaw Valley Business Association, the show is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 pm on Monday, July 3. This year's multi-colored display will be deployed from the lower slopes of KT-22. With hundreds of pyrotechnic shells lighting up the night sky and a crowd-pleasing finale filled with colored stars, peonies, chrysanthemums, titanium salutes and a few new sparklers, this lower mountain light show promises to be exquisite. Before watching the fireworks, there are a plethora of events and activities that are sure to make this Independence Weekend unforgettable. In the Village, fireworks spectators can revel in the hairy fun of the High Sierra Beard & Mustache Championships at 6 pm or share in the groove at the pre-fireworks concert with the jam grass band, Poor Man's Whiskey. Squaw Valley's Independence Day celebration offers a dazzling display of fireworks and so much more.

In addition to the fireworks extravaganza, visitors will find a multitude of activities to take part in over the holiday weekend at Squaw Valley USA. A scenic Cable Car ride brings guests to High Camp (el. 8200') where they can take pleasure in mountaintop ice skating, tennis, swimming and relaxing poolside, as well as miles of scenic hiking trails. Mountaintop lunch is available at the Poolside Café and the outdoor BBQ, and dinner is served overlooking Lake Tahoe at Alexander's Café. In the base village, activities include a climbing wall, an adventure ropes course, the Flying Trapeze, golf, horseback riding, and shopping. In celebration of the 4th of July, the Village at Squaw will transform into an outdoor circus and will showcase wandering circus performers and full-size circus shows throughout the weekend.
