Scare for Beltrametti

St. Anton, Austria Jan. 31, 2001 (FIS)--Swiss skier Silvano Beltrametti's dark cloud of bad luck was blessed with a silver lining after he suffered a micro-fracture on the foresection of his right hand in yesterday's super-G.

Beltrametti believes he hit his hand hard on either the sixth or seventh gate, and as of yesterday evening, it was doubtful whether he would be able to continue in this World Championships. X-rays did not definitely confirm whether the bone was indeed broken or not.

"All the powers seem sworn against me," commented Beltrametti, as he feared he might have to finish his season prematurely for the third consecutive year.

A few hours later and good news was received. The injury was very painful, but not serious in nature and he will be able to start in training and racing, although his hand will no doubt be heavily strapped.
