VAIL, Colo. Nov. 15, 2002(AP) - Skier Bode Miller, who won two Olympic silver medals last season and four World Cup races, underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday to remove loose cartilage pieces in his left knee.

His doctor expects Miller to be back on skis very soon.

Ski team surgeon Richard Steadman, who operated on Miller after he tore ligaments in his left knee in a crash at the 2001 World Championships in Austria, performed the 30-minute operation at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic and said he was pleased with the procedure. Miller was to spend the night at the clinic for observation and see Steadman again Saturday.

``It was good. I look at a quick recovery,'' the doctor said. ``It could be an extremely fast recovery.

``It's not impossible he could ski in a week although three weeks would be more realistic. He has to be fully rehabilitated to ski. We don't want him out there if he's not ready.

The 25-year-old Miller, from Franconia, N.H., won Olympic silver in the giant slalom and combined events at Salt Lake City in February. He also won a World Cup slalom and three giant slaloms.

He was fifth in the opening GS of the season last month in Soelden, Austria. The men's World Cup schedule resumes next Thursday in Park City, Utah.
