Stratton Announces New Freeskiing Event

STRATTON MOUNTAIN, VT - Stratton Mountain stages an exciting new freeskiing event -- created by the athletes -- with Slopestyle and Superpipe Events on March 29-30. With big cash prizes, expect a full slate of today's top competitors,including Dynastar and Stratton team athletes. The Dynastar Team includes Jeremy Nobis, US and World Freeskiing Champion Dave Swanwick and Andrew Wood, the first man to land a 1260 in competition for the 2000 US Open Big Air win.

The Stratton Freeride Team includes X-Games Gold and Silver MedallistMike Nick, Derek Klick and Liam Downey. Filmmaker Josh Berman, along-time Stratton skier, will also be on hand. A field of 50, including30 invitational spots and 20 open spots determined in pre-qualifiers,will compete for the $15,000 purse with Slopestyle on Saturday on theSunriser Supertrail and the Superpipe on Sunday at the Sun Bowl,Stratton's second Superpipe.

Stratton has been at the heart of freestyle since the early days. Herman Goellner invented the mobius flip in an early Stratton Mountain contest.Stratton ski instructor Stefan Schernthaner, 1970s freestyle champion and Hot Dog Classic competitor, originated the flying royal Chrisitieright here at Stratton.

Today , Stratton is regarded as a top East Coast New School Playground(Freeskier) and home of terrain parks voted No. 1 in the East and No. 2in North America (SKI). And, Stratton is a mountain that had a halfpipe before the rest of theworld knew what it was!
