Families and vacationers who prefer a quieter atmosphere need look no further than the Egger family's Sport-Vital Hotel Theresa. Located in quiet Zell am Ziller, the hotel has a spa, and The Egger sons guide you around the slopes during the day then produce gourmet fare at night. The childcare program includes skiing. Rates run $885-$1,075 per person, per week and include three-quarter board, a ski pass and all weekly programming. Contact: 011-43-528-22-28-60; fax 011-43-528-24-235; www.sporthotel-theresa.co.at.
DINING OUT The Kramerwirt serves elaborate game dishes ($30-$40); At the Wirtshaus Griena, you'll sample traditional fare ($20-$27); The Tiroler Stuben serves inexpensive Tirolian fare ($15-$22).
DON'T MISS A day-trip to Innsbruck. (It's one hour by car, a bit more by train or bus.) Prowl Old Town. See how local folk lived at the Museum of Tirolean Folk Art, then contrast it with life in the Imperial Court Palace.
WHEN TO GO The snow is best in February and March. Slopes are crowded at Christmas and Easter.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Buy a Z ticket and ride the Penkenbahn, then hike along the walker's path to Penkenjoch.
