Lift tickets: adults $45, teens $35, children/seniors $25.
GETTING THERE Pico is nine miles east of Rutland, Vt. From Boston (3 hours): Take I-93 to Concord, N.H., then I-89 toVermont Exit 2, then Route 4 west; Pico is off Route 4 about five minutes past the Killington Access Road. From New York (4 1/2 hours): Take I-87 to Exit 20, then Route 149 to Route 4 east. Amtrak offers daily service to Rutland from New York's Penn Station; several hotels offer shuttles.
DINING OUT, SLEEPING IN One of Vermont's first ski lodges, the rustic Inn at Long Trail (802-775-7181) is Pico's closest eating and sleeping establishment. McGrath's Irish Pub serves an excellent Guinness Stew, and the Inn offers weekend packages-$320-$428 (non-holiday weekend) for two, including breakfast and dinner. For a romantic setting, try the Vermont Inn (802-775-0708, $145-$220) or the award-winning Red Clover Inn (802-775-2290, $340-$990). Listed prices are for two people over a non-holiday weekend and include full breakfasts and dinners. Both inns are located a few miles west of Pico, just off Route 4. The Cortina Inn (802-773-3333), also on Route 4, is a large hotel with full amenities, including a fitness center and indoor pool. A double room runs $174 for a non-holiday weekend, including breakfast. The restaurant, Zola's Grille, serves Mediterranean cuisine in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Slopeside accommodations are available in the Pico Resort Condominiums (877-458-4637), with units ranging in size from studio to three-bedroom ($243-$455 per night, non-holiday).
