BANFF, Alberta - With a focus on continuously improving its famed Rocky Mountain experience, Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort celebrates 80 great years with new services, Canada's most majestic scenery, and the best learn-to-ski programs possible.

The first resort in Alberta to go completely trans-fat free, Sunshine has added new food options and retail space in its Bourgeau base area in addition to other improvements throughout the almost 3,400 acres of skiable terrain.

"Sunshine is world renowned for having the best snow in the Canadian Rockies and we have spent the last summer focusing our team on the operational excellence that makes a visit here truly memorable," said Mike Moynihan, Manager of Sales and Media. "From outstanding grooming, to the largest ski school in the national parks, and improving our retail and food services, Sunshine is working to be the best of the best."

Family-owned by the Scurfields, more than $35 million has been spent at the environmentally progressive resort over the past few years to build an exceptionally fast, efficient lift system capable of eliminating line-ups over the three mountain faces that attract more than 500,000 visitors annually. Two years ago Sunshine captured the prestigious Silver Eagle Award for water conversation, the premier honour within the North American ski industry.

Significant renovations have also occurred at the Sunshine Inn - the only ski-in, ski-out hotel in the mountain national parks - with the complete rebuilding of the Terrace Wing scheduled for next summer.

"We have 79 years experience celebrating mankind and nature in harmony," added Mr. Moynihan. "To celebrate this 80th anniversary we intend to honour the historic contribution of many of Banff's great, unique characters and to host events that will create everlasting memories."

First opened with guests arriving on horse-drawn sleighs, Sunshine now boasts over 30 feet of natural snow and 12 lifts, including the most quads in the Canadian Rockies. With awe-inspiring views, Sunshine offers more than 3500 feet of vertical during Canada's longest season stretching from November to the end of May.
