Davos, Switzerland, Feb. 21 (AP)--An avalanche Monday buried several people _ apparently skiers _ in an area near Davos in the Alps of eastern Switzerland, police said.

A search dog found one person, who was hospitalized immediately, said the Graubuenden state police.

There was no immediate word on the person's condition, the identities of others possibly missing or how many of them there were. Helicopters participated in the search, police said.

The avalanche came down shortly before noon in the Meierhof-Taelli ski area, a police statement said.

Some five feet of snow fell in eastern Switzerland during the past three days and bright sunshine Monday was expected to increase the chances of avalanches during the day, forecasters said.

The avalanche occurred during the height of the season for Davos, one of the most popular skiing areas of Switzerland.
