A taste of Olympic glory without having to go through years of grueling training yourself.
For a taste of Olympic glory without having to go through years of grueling training yourself, take the family to visit the Olympic Training Center. Check out where the athletes train for sports like bobsledding, figure skating, ice hockey, luge, skiing, and speed skating. The place is huge (the athlete center contains a 20,000 square foot gymnasium with the capability to hold three events at the same time), and includes high-tech medical facilities, 96 spacious rooms for athletes, and of course, a store where you can buy all the Olympic memorabilia you could ever want.
Overlooking the shores of Mirror Lake, right on Main Street.
Overlooking the shores of Mirror Lake, right on Main Street, the High Peaks Resort is a great place to stay and relax. Make sure to get a room on the ground floor where you can open your balcony door and step right out onto the lake. While the bathrooms in the more expensive rooms are great, the ones in the standard rooms are rather narrow and don’t have much counter space. The beds and room décor, on the other hand, are great. If you need anything, just ask the staff and they are there to help you with whatever you need.
The grandeur of an old time camp with the luxury amenities of a modern resort.
The Whiteface Lodge was designed with the grandeur of the old time camps in mind, but with the luxury amenities of a modern resort and club. And the hotel really does live up to expectations. The lodge offers an impressive array of activities ranging from hiking and skiing on Whiteface Mountain to relaxing at the spa. Kids can romp around at Kamp Kanu, a complimentary day camp for kids, while parents spend some much-needed time together exploring the lake or getting facials.
If you are looking for a luxurious place to stay in Lake Placid, the Golden Arrow might not be for you. But if you are looking for a simple place to stay with clean comfortable rooms, friendly service, and lots of amenities, it’s a great place to stay. The place is nothing fancy, in fact some of the furniture is mismatched and on the old side, but it has a great view, looking right out over Mirror Lake and the mountains. The hotel is located right in Lake Placid, so it’s easy to get around and fun to explore the town after a day of skiing.
Good food and hospitable service are the norm here, as are peace and quiet.
Many of the old traditions that began at the Mirror Lake Inn back in 1924 continue today, making the hotel feel traditional and warm. Good food and hospitable service are the norm here, as are peace and quiet. The hotel is located at the end of the main Lake Placid drag, making it one of the quietest places to stay. The walk into town is short, but if you want to go anywhere else in town, not having a car may pose a problem. If you choose to stay around the hotel, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied.
