Weather guy Mark Breen is loving this winter as much as the rest of us. And he sees more of the same in the longterm forecast. Sorry about that, Western resorts.

Mark Breen’s calm baritone is a familiar part of the soundtrack to life in Vermont, where his detailed daily forecasts air daily on Vermont Public Radio. He’s the senior meteorologist and planetarium director at the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury, where his Eye on the Sky weather forecasts are produced. Breen doesn’t spend a lot of time riding ski lifts, but says he likes to get out with friends on nordic skis or snowshoes. And he’s a big fan of winter.

The Stowe Derby began as a bet between two guys. Seventy years later, it’s one of Stowe’s signature winter events.

The Stowe Derby, in which competitors race from the heights of Mt. Mansfield to the charming village below, descending 2,600 vertical feet and covering some 12 miles of downhill and cross-crountry terrain, celebrates its 70th birthday this year.

An Olympic-Worthy Opening at Double H Ranch

Pro skier and two-time Olympic medalist Andrew Weibrecht skied with campers at Double H Ranch’s Adaptive Winter Sports Program.

Campers at Double H Ranch’s Adaptive Winter Sports Program got a special treat for opening day—a visit from Olympic skier Andrew Weibrecht.

Weibrecht, a two-time Olympic medalist and World Cup Skier, was on his way home to Lake Placid, New York, when he stopped at Paul Newman’s Double H Ranch in January.
