New York, NY, Nov. 2 (AP)--Wet, windy conditions and cool temperatures lingering over parts of the Northeast and Great Lakes early today were expected to continue in those regions with rain and snow also expected in other regions.

Areas of the upper Ohio Valley and the Northeast will see rain and snow this afternoon while gusty wind and rain also was expected in the Mid-Atlantic and the Great Lakes.

Wintry weather was forecast in Michigan through the upper Ohio Valley and the Appalachians, with snow accumulations of up to 4 inches predicted in Lake Effect regions and higher elevations.

Storms that brought rains and heavy wind Tuesday wreaked havoc on some Election Day polling venues--knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers in parts of North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey and New England.

Over the western United States, high clouds will be spreading across the Pacific Northwest and upper Rockies, while a system approaching the Pacific Northwest will bring increasing clouds to western areas of Washington and Oregon.

Highs today were forecast in the 20s and 30s over parts of the Great Lakes; in the 40s and 50s in the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, the northern Plains, the Ohio Valley, the Rockies; in the 60s and 70s along the Gulf Coast and Florida, the central Plains and parts of the West; and in the 80s in parts of the Southwest.

Temperatures across the Lower 48 ranged from 91 degrees in Gila Bend, Ariz., to 4 degrees in Alliance, Neb.
