Boulder, CO, Jan. 31--Take Your Daughter to the Slopes Week runs from January 31-February 6. This event, now in its third year was created by SSAW (Snow Sports Association for Women) and it encourages everyone who alpine, cross-country skis, or snowboards to bring a daughter, sister, mother, or female friend to the snow.

"Daughter Week is a tremendous concept and a terrific way to introduce girls and women to snow sports," said Bill Clapper of SIA. Nearly 200 resorts and retailers will be participating in this Go-girl week and it is up to them to decide what type of promotions and events they will be doing.

Note, however, that this event is not exclusively for females. "For dads taking your daughter to the snow is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your kids," said Clapper. This year, Olympic Gold Medalist, Picabo Street has also signed on as the official spokeswomen for the event and hopes to encourage women to get on the snow.

Ski areas around the country will be celebrating the week with special events and offers. At Booth Creeks Resorts--Cranmore NH, Loon Mountain NH, Northstar-at-Tahoe CA, and Waterville Valley NH women instructors and local pro skiers and riders will be on hand to provide free skiing tips.

At Gore Mountain, MY, daughters aged 19-and-under ski free with a paying parent. The same special is offered at Smuggler's Notch Resort, VT, to daughters aged 17-and-under. Kirkwood, CA is offering participating mothers and daughters discounted coupons on return skiing trips. Several Colorado resorts are offering special clinics for the daughters and a variety of discounts. And, at participating resorts east and west , the "Bring a Buddy Offer" earns you a free lift ticket for yourself if you sign your daughter up for a Learn to Ski package, or vice-versa.

There are hundreds more discounts and special offers from ski resorts, ski shops, and other sponsors. "Take Your Daughter to the Snow Week" has drawn support from all facets of the industry: Kodak will be handing out single-use cameras, Sports Illustrated for Women will be passing out subscription information, and participants will be eligible to win a Southwest Airlines Vacation packages.
