Boulder, CO, Nov. 4--Thanks to a Canadian cold front, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie blew big "lake-effect" snowfalls eastward yesterday and into this morning.

Snow totals varied greatly with this whirling dervish. Whitetail Ski Resort, PA, got just enough of a dusting to whiten the slopes. In West Virginia, however, Snowshoe Resort got eight inches of powder and made three feet more.

Big dumps also graced parts of western New York, where Holiday Valley ski area got up to a foot. Much of the surrounding area also reported heavy snow and thunder. Farther east, snow dusted parts of northern Vermont and New Hampshire.

Although snow primarily fell on states near the Great Lakes and along the Canadian border of the St. Lawrence River, temperatures in the 20's left frost on the ground from New England to Georgia.

This weekend, a dry cold front should move over the northeast, creating below-normal temperatures ideal for snowmaking.
