Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany Jan. 4, 2002 (AP)--The German skiing coach who was in the fatal crash with French star Regine Cavagnoud says he can't remember the collision and does not feel responsible for it.

``I am innocent. That's my personal opinion but it's backed by other reports,'' coach Markus Anwander told the SID sports news agency in an interview published Friday.

Cavagnoud died two days after slamming into Anwander during a practice run on Austria's Pitztal glacier on Oct. 29. Anwander was seriously injured and spent nearly two weeks in coma but was released from an Innsbruck hospital three weeks ago.

``The injuries have healed, I feel really good but I lack strength,'' Anwander told SID.

Anwander is undergoing rehabilitation at home in Garmisch and expects to be back in his job with the German team at the end of January. Anwander told SID he could not remember the accident that killed Cavagnoud, the Super-G World Cup champion.

``It's difficult for me to speak about it. I'm trying to suppress everything,'' he said.

Austrian prosecutor Rudolf Koll, who is leading the investigation into the accident, will conduct two days of hearings next week. German and French team officials will be questioned.

``There are still details to be cleared up,'' Anwander told SID. ``To determine who was responsible is difficult enough, and the tragedy of this accident is punishment enough for all those involved.''

Austrian investigators have said before that the joint training session was poorly coordinated and that there had been communication problems.

The teams communicated on different radio frequencies and apparently did not speak each other's language well.
