Seoul, South Korea, Feb. 26 (AP)--Austria's Benjamin Raich beat Michael Von Gruenigen of Switzerland today to win a men's World Cup giant slalom.

Raich clinched the two-run competition with a combined time of 2 minutes, 27.56 seconds, beating Von Gruenigen, the reigning World Cup giant slalom champion, by .25 of a second.

Joel Chenal of France finished third at 2:28.35 on the .88-mile Rainbow course in the Yongpyong ski resort, 96 miles east of Seoul.

It was the fifth World Cup victory for Raich. Raich, 22, is fifth in the overall giant slalom standings for the 2000 World Cup circuit.

Austria's Hermann Maier, the leader in the race for the World Cup overall title, did not compete.
