Man, Its tough being a skier in Washington. We get a tiny amount of snow, and you have to drive a coupla hours to get decent snow in the first place. But it sure is nice to stare out the window on a rainy day and think,"Snow in the mountains", while everyone else is complaining. So here's to rainy days, ice, and 2 1/2 hour drives to snow. Here's to the Northwest.

I wouldn't complain too much. At least ynz have some hardcore places to ski out there. Western Pennsylvanians can only pray our bank accounts can one day support a trip elsewhere to the steep and deep. Until that day comes, we just suck it up and head back and rip down our local bump and dream of bigger peaks.

Dear Skiing Magazine, As a Ski Patroller at Mt. Ashland Oregon in the 80’s and 90’s I worked with a freelance reporter /photographer for Skiing Magazine and helped get two articles published. One is on Mt. Ashland or Ski Ashland as it was called back then and the other was an article on Snow-Cat skiing at Mt. Bailey which is next to Crater Lake and Diamond Lake in Southern Oregon. I am in desperate need to obtain copies of these articles but I have no idea how to search your archives. Please let me know how I can do all the work and pay you for the articles or subscriptions or what else you may need. Sincerely, Ed Teachout edteachout@comcast.net 503-530-0073

While it is difficult being a skier in Washington, I do think that being a skier in southern California is the worst. For us, the closest hill that is actually worth going to is a six hour car drive away at Mammoth Mountain.

So me and a few buddies are getting ready for our annual trip to Utah and we're staying at Brighton Resort this year. I remember a few seasons back in one of your issues you had an "inside line" Guide to Brighton & Solitude. I have since recycled that issue and wish I hadn't....Is there any way I can get a copy of that "Guide" and any other previous guides to resorts? Let me know my options...thanks for the help! Joe C. New Hampshire PS. What was the snowfall amount Janurary '08? It seems as though this early season has been better than last....hmmm.

Two days of steep bumps at Mary Jane in March was enough to convince me to take my off-season conditioning seriously. Fitness Boot Camp, in-line skate, running steps- I'll be ready for the flurries to fly by September!
