WHISTLER, BC - (News Release) - Summer's here and Whistler Blackcomb is ramping up its activities for a fun-filled season. From skiing and riding in Horstman Glacier to experiencing space in the Human Gyroscope, to viewing the Musical Bumps from the High Note Trail, there's an activity to entertain adventurers of all ages.
Glacier Skiing and Riding
Skiers and riders are still enjoying Blackcomb Mountain's summer glacier after Whistler Blackcomb's second snowiest winter on record. Horstman Glacier is open to the public from 12pm to 3pm daily, with upload access at 11am. Upload is available via the Wizard Express chair at Blackcomb base, and then Solar Coaster. From Solar, skiers and riders will take a shuttle bus to 7th Heaven, where they can upload on the chair lift. The Horstman and Showcase t-bars provide access between laps.
Sightseeing and Hiking
For those who want to visit the Horstman Glacier on foot, sightseeing is available from 10am to 3pm until July 29. Upload remains the same as for skiers and snowboarders.
The Whistler Gondola and Peak Chair re-open on June 30, along with the summer's first Mountaintop BBQ at the Roundhouse Lodge. Every Saturday evening from 5pm - 8pm sightseers can enjoy live entertainment, watch the sun set at 6,000 feet, and then enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner spread. Tickets are a hot item, so remember to buy early from Guest Relations.
While up at the Roundhouse, be sure to visit the replica of the Sky Cabins that will be placed on the Peak to Peak Gondola, which is scheduled to debut in December 2008. Check out construction plans for the landmark project that will link Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains for the first time ever, spanning 4.4 km (2.73 miles) with only four towers.
On Whistler, sightseers can also take in glacier-fed lakes, breath-taking vistas of the surrounding Coastal Mountain range and the famous monolith Black Tusk. Numerous hikes will be available to those who want to go on a walk-about, including the High Note Trail, which features the "Musical Bumps" comprised of Flute, Obo and Piccolo peaks - popular for great winter skiing. Whistler Mountain sightseeing runs through to October 8.
Mountain bike riders who want to "Schley" can hit the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, which is open until October 8. Hours of operation are 10am to 8pm daily through the summer. Women's Wednesdays clinics run from June 20 to August 29, from 6pm to 8pm. Ladies can meet at the base of the GLC stairs. June 20 also marks the beginning of Phat Wednesdays downhill race series, sponsored by the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association (WORCA).
