If you take a lesson at Stratton this winter, your instructor could very well be more than your average ski bum. The ski school staff (mostly the part-timers) includes an ex-CIA man, an Alaskan bush pilot, engineers, attorneys, commercial airline pilots, air-traffic controllers, and college professors -- along with a few corporate CEOs. According to ski school secretary Jennifer Shaw, one guy is even president of a leading laser-technology company.
"People are willing to do anything as long as it keeps them skiing," says Marcel Gisquet, one of Stratton's full-time head instructors. He adds that CEOs and people who are presidents of their own companies have even been known to wind up cleaning toilets (on slow weekends, presumably). It just goes to show you that people really can't afford to be true ski bums anymore.
