Where to go for a month long ski vacation?
Where to go for a month long ski vacation?
I have 14 months off of work and I am looking to take advantage of the break. Girlfriend is okay with me disappearing for a month this winter. Where and when to go for great powder and variety in North America?

You should set up base camp in Salt Lake, and if it's good while you're there, you'll be an hour or less to multiple resorts with some of the greatest snow on earth. (I think that's their tagline, right?)
If SLC is not so great conditions-wise, you're only a day's drive or a quick flight from Tahoe, Jackson, Sun Valley, Montana, Colorado, or elsewhere...

that should be "to" Tahoe, et al...

how about Europe... try Austria, Zell am See/glacier + 3 lovely ski resorts and fantastic, charming city Zell by the Lake.
Kitzbuhel (700 years old fantastic Alpine authentic city and its famous Hannenkam downhill race i February. Several ski resorts available around famous Kitz. U can skii to the center of town...FANTASTIC
or... Switzerland; St. Moritz, Zermatt... elegant, 1st class places and ski resorts.

Set up camp in Frisco, Dillon, or Silverthorne Colorado. You are in the middle of a bunch of ski areas with 15 minutes to an hour or two. Or, how about doing a week in the Sierras, a week in Utah, and a week in Colorado? With a little advance planning you can take Amtrak between all of these places. (For Summit County you'd have to get off at Grand Junction and take Greyhound to Vail or Frisco). From Frisco (summit county area) you can take Colorado Mountain Express to the Denver Airport (about $60 per person). Or, do the whole thing in reverse

You want to ski the month of March in Colorado.Spring skiing is the best skiing. Two weeks to ski the Frisco and Dillon area, one week in Vail,Beaver Creek area and the last week in Aspen/Snowmass.After that, you might never leave, and your girlfriend would never see you again.

Salt Lake City, great resorts in the local area, at least ski, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solutude, Canyons, Park City, Snow Basin, Powder Mountain, then hit Tahoe, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Mt Rose, Kirkwood, then Jackson Hole & Targee, finish in Colorado with Vail, Copper, ABasin, skisome twice, throw in a day or two of cat or heli skiing in Utah and the month is done. Good Luck, wish it was me.

I agree with Utah. It's the best with the most epic ski options. The drive to Jackson or Aspen is quick if you want to move. Stay away from Summit County... too many people. Europe is too expensive and snow is questionable. Have fun.
