After spending the last two seasons modifying his own Dynafit Titans, the big-mountain skier will work directly with engineers to improve the backcountry-focused boots.

When a gear company that's known for their uphill-performance brings on an athlete known for his fast and furious descents, you know some change is coming. Dynafit is the worlds only full-line backcountry comapny, and their gear is light and fast, used and abused by uphill-machines like Greg HIll.

Hjorleifson, a professional skier by trade and boot-tinkerer by night, has been skiing Dynafit boots and bindings for the last two seasons. Hiking and skiing in boots all day demands certain requirements: primariliy, they must be lightweight. But Hoji noticed Dynafit boots couldn't handle his big fat skis, and he began modifying his pair of Titans.

“I have a lot of respect for their engineers and designers. I showed them my boots, and some footage from MSP; so they could see what I am doing on the gear. I'm really optimistic about working with them. The need for gear like this is really obvious in North America,” Hjorleifson recently said in an interview with ESPN.

Hoji's role as an athlete will expand to offer input on design. Expect a beefier line of downhill-charging backcountry boots that still maintain Dynafit's lightweight mojo.

Born and bred in Canmore AB, Hjorleifson is a member of the infamous “Bow Valley Crew” of freeskiers who cut their teeth ripping big Rocky Mountain lines in and around Lake Louise.  His specialty is ski touring steep, rock-studded faces and couloirs around the world.  Hoji’s skiing style is high-speed, technical racer-derived turns with the ooccasional air thrown in for good measure.  He has also has appeared in Matchstick Production’s Push, Claim, The Hit List and Seven Sunny Days.

Hjorleifson’s first assignment is to work with Dynafit's boot product manager, Federico Sbrissa, and the Italian design team on a new line of boots for the 2012-13 seasons.
