If you walked down the streets of Denver during the SIA trade show this year, you might have see skis and snowboards with vibrant, hand-painted, designs hanging from light poles and street signs. You might have wondered, what's up with that?". Well, the Art of Winter gallery show is what's up.
The exhibition was launched last year to coincide with the SIA Snow Show. It’s a display of the inspired efforts made possible by the Something Independent initiative, which formed to help the local Colorado snow industry succeed. Art of Winter will feature works created on recycled skis and boards from over 20 Colorado artists from Jan. 16-Feb. 6 outdoors in Larimer Square.
There will also be a gallery of designs from independently-owned Colorado ski & board companies like Liberty Skis, Icelantic, and Unity Snowboards at Row 14 Bistro & Wine Bar from Jan. 20-Feb. 6, screenings of ski films by local studios including Level 1 and Matchstick Productions on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on the Denver Theatre District and 16th St. Mall LED screens.
Go see Art of Winter in person, and browse the virtual exhibit on Facebook, and you could help an artist win an awesome ski trip. We’ve partnered with Art of Winter to send the artist whose creation gets the most “likes” to Park City to ski on the pristine white slopes of Deer Valley. If you really like what you see, there’s also the opportunity to bid on a cool piece in the online auction at artofwinter.co.
