Blizzard Cochise

2013 Testers' Choice
2013 Official Selection

Dimensions: 135-108-123

MSRP:  $900

We loved this ski last year. This season is no different. The Cochise chewed up chalky crud, tight trees, and even groomers. Its high horsepower will appeal more to strong, technical skiers, but it won’t beat you up thanks to its rocker, which allowed it to initiate smoothly and smear willingly. Open it up and this bull has the confidence to attack the trickiest terrain on the mountain.

Atomic Ritual

2013 Official Selection

Dimensions: 130-103-119

MSRP: $879

The Ritual is the fattest of Atomic’s new all-mountain Vantage series, which includes the Alibi, Theory, and Panic. Testers loved the rock-solid feel on hardpack and its stiff, “cliff-stomp-friendly” tail. Tip and tail rocker makes it maneuverable—though it takes some muscle. Intermediates might feel overpowered, but one strong East Coast tester called it “athletic and daring, a fun ski that attacks the fall line.”

Volkl Gotama

2013 Official Selection

Dimensions: 139-107-123

MSRP: $825

A Völkl classic, the Gotama returns to resounding praise. “An awe-inspiring ski,” said one tester. “It makes skiing in crud effortless,” said another. It handled soft and hard snow with equal authority, pumping excitement into every turn. Though one tester wanted a bit more rebound, all loved the full-rocker profile and the ski’s ability to execute turns of all shapes and sizes.

Armada TSTw

2013 Testers' Choice
2013 Official Selection

Dimensions: 130-100-121

MSRP: $850

“The TSTw takes versatility to a whole new level,” said one tester from Colorado. Spin, pivot, and smear freely. Its whimsical tip shape—rocker and early taper—is dialed for peppy skiing in soft conditions, and the flatter tail provides ample support for cutting up groomers. “If you have the skills or the ambitions to step into the backcountry or land big airs, this ski is perfect,” said another. With huge scores in float, crud performance, and forgiveness, this Testers’ Choice is an excellent Eastern pow ski or OSQ for out West.

Line Soulmate

2013 Official Selection

Dimensions: 132-98-123

MSRP: 750

Like to get smeary in the back bowls, go bouncy in the glades, and occasionally drag a hip on the hardpack? The new Soulmate may just be eponymously yours. One tester called this short-radius turner “a happy-go-lucky sort of ski.” Milled metal laminates provide stability in critical areas without excess bulk. Its versatile, larky approach will excel in ever-changing resort conditions from East Coast to West.
