Whistler Blackcomb Gets 12 Inches

Easter goodies were missing this past weekend as more than a foot of snow blanketed Whistler Blackcomb.

WHISTLER, B.C. - March 23, 2008 – While the Easter Bunny was unimpressed by the weather at Whistler this weekend, powder pigs are reveling in the fresh snow and sunshine. More decidedly un-spring-like weather is on the way and Whistler Blackcomb is likely to hit their yearly average snowfall accumulation of 10 metres/33 feet by the end of this month.

After a surprise sunny reprieve this afternoon, more snow is on the way tonight with 10 to 15cms forecasted by Environment Canada and another 5cms slated to fall on Monday. With the freezing level in the village, it seems winter has a good hold on Whistler despite the fact that spring has officially arrived.

"We are setting up to have an outstanding spring skiing and riding season," says Michelle Leroux, Whistler Blackcomb Public Relations and Communications Manager. "Our base is 265cms/104" right now and with the kind of weather we've been having it won't be getting smaller any time soon." Whistler Blackcomb closes for the winter season on June 8, and glacier skiing and riding runs from June 9 to the end of July.

Skiers and riders who purchase next season's EDGE card can make the most of this spring and purchase an Unlimited Spring Pass for $89 (valid March 29 to June 8). Canadian and Washington State residents are eligible to purchase the early-bird 2008/2009 EDGE card, which offers lift ticket pricing as low as $57 a day, including the Peak 2 Peak Gondola opening December 2008. The EDGE card spring deal runs from March 18 to April 30.
