Ever since Austrian expat and CMH founder Hans Gmoser yodeled his way across Canada, planted his flag in Banff, and introduced heli-skiing to the world in 1965, CMH has been at the cutting edge of backcountry adventure. This winter, they’ve upped the ante once again by partnering with K2 to launch the CMH/K2 Ski Demo Weeks. These two seven-day trips offer guests the rare opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and be a part of designing the next generation of K2 skis—all while enjoying CMH’s legendary powder, big steeps, cushy lodging, and food fit for a king.

Piggybacking on K2’s rollout this winter of the new BackSide series, the CMH/K2 Ski Demo Weeks invite guests to test drive a variety of K2 prototypes for the 2010-11 season. With a variety of widths, weights, and innovative features—skin notches, straight tails, tip and tail holes—the BackSide series is leading the charge in off-piste ski technology. On the quest to create the perfect backcountry ski, K2 will post engineers onsite at CMH’s lodges during the Demo Weeks to receive live feedback from guests, using skiers’ input to tweak the final design of next season’s arsenal of K2 skis, to be released in fall 2010. And if sampling sweet skis and ripping big-mountain powder aren’t enough, guests will walk away with a gift certificate for a brand new pair of K2 boards of their choosing.

The catch? The hefty $10,000 price tag, which includes double room occupancy at the Monashees Lodge from March 13-20, seven days of heli-skiing, all meals, non-alcoholic drinks, and 100,000 square feet of guaranteed vertical. If you can’t quite swallow dropping ten grand to ski, CMH is also offering the poor man’s package: the Helicopter-Assisted Ski Touring week at the Adamants Lodge, April 10-17 for $3,500.

Still can’t swing it? Purchase a pair of K2 BackSides by 12/31/09 and enter to win a FREE seven day heli-skiing trip with CMH. Now, that’s more like it.
