Dag Aabye
On first impression, one might assume that 59-year-old Dag Aabye is just another old skier living in a bus outside of Silver Star, B.C., washing dishes to pay for his turns. Fair enough. But in 1969, Aabye skied a 70-degree B.C. face, triggering an avalanche and breaking his ribs riding it through the trees on the way down (he still showed up to teach skiing that afternoon). Let's credit Abaye (who still competes in speed-skiing events) for fathering the North American extreme-skiing movement, 15 years before there was a movement.
