First Snow of the Year
The snow reports are rolling in. "It’s that time again—Aspen/Snowmass has a huge amount of snow on top of the mountains and has been snowing and ‘snaining’ (snowy rain) all day long with more expected in the forecast," says Aspen's PR Manager Melissa Rhines. At Steamboat, snow was spotted down to just below the top of Christie Peak at about 8,000 feet with between a trace to half an inch as you moved up from the top of the gondola up to the summit of Mt. Werner. And in Crested Butte (which is slated to open November 25), the seven-day forecast calls for more precipitation with the potential for snowfall. The image above shows what Crested Butte looks like right now. Loveland started making snow yesterday and is shooting to be the first resort open in the U.S. The National Weather Service is reporting upwards of 16 inches of snow to fall at higher elevations this week.

It's a bitter-sweet moment when Mother Nature sends her first delivery of winter's finest...in Steamboat we're trading single-track for tree skiing in just over 40 days.
