In Defense of…Dewar's and Hot Chocolate
I’m at the Plume Saloon, a gritty bar off Colorado’s I-70, not far from Loveland Ski Area. I’ve just taken my first five runs of the winter season. It’s time to celebrate. Although it’s only October, traces of snow linger on the sidewalk outside. The bartender has waist-long dreads and a couple tattoos. “What can I get you?” he asks.
I pause. Everyone else is pounding draft beer or cans of Coors. But I’m in the mood for something hot. If I order a hot chocolate and Bailey’s, I know the bartender will think I’m a wuss. He’ll assume I spent the day reading a romance novel in the lodge while my boyfriend shredded the groomers. Which isn’t true. So I settle on a drink I’ve recently discovered: hot chocolate and Dewar’s. The scotch makes it seem less girly somehow. It tastes good too, not too sweet or syrupy like it’d be with Bailey’s. And the heat of the cocoa mixed with the gut-warming sensation of the scotch is a pleasant combination. I recommend Dewar's—it's too not pricy, but it's good enough that you can chug a few of these steaming mugs and feel OK afterward.
I’ve decided to name this drink The Hot Tub—because it heats you as completely an après-ski soak, but without the chlorine and the germs. This drink may already a have a name. But I don’t care. Next time you’re at a bar after skiing, ask for a Hot Tub. Spread the word. —Megan Michelson

Being a scotch drinker, and
Being a scotch drinker, and Dewars being my choice for imbibing, I will definitely try your Hot Tub. Sounds Great!! I normally order a Dewars on the rocks with a couple of drops of water, and I have a few bartenders trained where I call it A Dew Like U Do.
