Sportube Series 2 gear transport box
I like to keep my long things well protected, especially when traveling to foreign lands. Specifically, I need my skis and my kayak paddles to be safe when I ship them ahead to my vacation spots. I often ship these items, rather than checking them on the airplane with me, to lighten my load and avoid excess baggage fees. Which is why I’m eyeing this adjustable-length plastic box that holds a couple pair of alpine skis (up to 207 centimeters long) or a few paddles (with blades up to 11 inches wide). I used to use a length of cardboard concrete-form tubing to ship my kayak paddles after Delta airlines broke a new paddle of mine neatly in half, but it was big, funny-looking, and unwieldy. The Series 2 has two molded handles, a detachable shoulder strap, a slick silver color, and a set of wheels for easy hauling. [$180; sportube.com] —Sam Bass
