Powderchaser: This Week's Storm Forecast
Light snow is currently freshening things up early this morning with another two to four inches possible in most northern mountains by this afternoon especially over Colorado and Utah where light snow fell overnight. A complex storm system should spread into the Rockies in waves this weekend with the strongest expected after midnight on Friday and continuing into Saturday afternoon. The track of the warm front will determine who gets significant snow but all odds at this point are hinting at higher amounts for central Colorado (Aspen, Crested Butte, Beaver Creek) and moderate amounts for the Wasatch of Utah. My bet is 7-11 inches over the Wasatch by Saturday afternoon and 9-14 inches over central Colorado by Sunday morning. The northern mountains of Colorado become more favored by Sunday afternoon so Monday may yet be a good day to hit the slopes along I-70 or north when the winds shift to the West favoring the I-70 corridor.
Powder Forecast:
Thursday: Light snow continuing in the Wasatch and Colorado (3-6 inches)
Friday: Partly sunny with flurries possible late in the day.
Saturday: Moderate snowfall for Central and southern Colorado and snow continuing in the southern Wasatch (5-10 inches).
Saturday night: Light snow continuing in the Wasatch (2-4) with moderate snow continuing in central Colorado (4-7 additional).
Sunday: Snow tapering off in the Wasatch. Moderate snow likely in central and northern Colorado as flow shifts to the West in the late morning.
Sun night: Snow continuing over central and northern Colorado.
Monday: Gradual clearing with lingering snow showers over the Divide and Vail Pass.
The place to ski this week? I will favor areas such as Beaver Creek, Vail and perhaps Winter Park by later in the weekend including Monday morning.
