NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--A New York man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to sell cocaine through classified-listing website Craigslist.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that Jorge Enrique Nieto Palomino, 29 years old, of the Corona section of Queens, N.Y., arranged over the popular website to sell the drugs by posting listings for "ski equipment" or "ski instructor" services, which were in reality coded offers for cocaine. Those who contacted Palomino were offered "ski" or "snow," references to the white powdered drug.
Palomino was arrested after arranging for four sales with an undercover police officer, completing a six-month investigation. Prosecutors allege he sold more than half a pound over the time of the investigation, all of which occurred in Flushing, Queens, near a school for deaf children.
In a sentencing that Brown called a warning to others, Palomino was also given five years of supervision after the release.
