For a posse of hardcore Maine winter-storm surfers, the answer is easy.

Chris Cary says it all at the beginning of this video we found on No Umbrella. For Maine coast surfers, the surf is often better in the middle of winter, and if you live on the southern Maine coast, the surf is closer than the ski hill.

Just when you thought winter was coming to an end, the entire country is getting pummeled again. Utah's Wasatch is expecting 18 to 20 inches of new snow, Maine is getting nailed with nine inches, Colorado's Front Range is getting another dusting, and California's Sierra is calling for 14 to 20 inches. Head to Snowbird, Squaw Valley, A-Basin, or Sugarloaf—which are all still open—to get the goods.

Over a dozen resorts remain open, as an epic April continues to extend the season in many areas. The next winter storm has characteristics of something we might see in mid March and yet somehow it's almost May and we are going to see low snow levels and 14-20 inches at many resorts especially the northern Sierra and Wasatch.

Lift improvements at Vail, Colorado, mean an end to the resort’s famous panty tree.

This off-season, Vail will replace Chair 5—its three-person lift out of the Back Bowls— with a new, faster quad. This seems like good news. But about 100 to 200 trees will be cleared to make room for the new lift, and sadly Vail’s iconic panty tree is one of them.

The aspen tree, which is covered with bikini briefs, bras, and Mardi Gras beads, has been a landmark in the Back Bowls since the ’90s. Several years ago, Grand Marnier even ran a print advertisement that read, “You just recognized a pair of panties in the Sun Down Bowl tree… The conversation is waiting.”

They buy their beans directly from farmers that they have a personal relationship with. The result is that they pay higher than fair trade prices for their crops actually treating their farmers well to insure a continued relationship and support. DOMA roasts their coffee using an eco-friendly roaster that uses 80% less natural gas helping to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 39,000 pounds per year.
