Breaking wind is becoming acceptable in the ski industry.

Bolton Valley Resort in Vermont announced last week that they’ve started construction on a wind turbine to help power their resort. The turbine, which is the second installed at a ski area in the U.S. is expected to produce 300,000 killowatts, enough to light up 40 houses, and should be up and running by the time the snow flies. “Adding wind power is asignificant investment but will yield tremendous returns for our ski area and Vermont,” said owner Larry Williams.

At the Matchstick World Premiere on Saturday night, one lucky guy walked away with a new pair of skis—all because he dressed up like Saucer Boy, the alter-ego of the late Shane McConkey. The movie paid tribute to Shane's life.

The new Matchstick Productions film, In Deep: The Skiing Experience, premiered Saturday night to two sold-out audiences at Colorado's Boulder Theater. The highlight of the film was surely the Shane McConkey tribute, which showcased the goofy spirit and big-mountain talent of the ski pioneer who died while shooting with MSP last April in Italy.

The new Matchstick Productions film, In Deep, premieres this weekend in Boulder. Executive Producer Murray Wais gives us a sneak peak.

The first stop on the Matchstick Productions film tour usually takes  place in Whistler, BC. But not this year. The Crested Butte, Colorado-based crew at MSP decided to keep the world premiere of In Deep: The Skiing Experience a little closer to home—it's happening this Saturday, September 19, in Boulder, Colorado. "We are still having a big show in Whistler but we moved the world premiere to Boulder because we wanted to keep it true to our Colorado roots," MSP Executive Producer Murray Wais told us.

Level 1 Productions unveils Refresh and celebrates 10 years of film making at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, Colorado.

This past Friday at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, Colorado, Josh Berman and the Level 1 crew unveiled the world premiere of Refresh and celebrated their 10th year of filmmaking. The sellout crowd was treated to an extremely high level of park, urban, and big-mountain skiing with a ratio of jib to big-mountain at around 70:30. Standout footage from Wiley Miller in Haines, Alaska, and Mike Hornbeck in Michigan lit up the crowd. Refresh, progressive from the start, paid interesting homage to skiing’s roots by throwing in Warren Miller-esq sound bites throughout the movie.

You'll come for the 500 inches of annual powder. You'll stay for Burger Monday. And then stay longer for Taco Tuesday.

I had the good fortune of being at Washington's Crystal Mountain this season on a Monday after a seven-foot storm that pushed snow totals for the season over 500 inches. What had been a rough start to the season in the Northwest, with a brutal January high-pressure spell, was quickly forgotten. But what made this lucky trip memorable was the après at the Snorting Elk Cellar. Burger Monday with a few (or six) Deschuttes Porters was the perfect capper to a day of non-stop powder laps.

Until recently, Cattabriga-Alosa lived in Green Hills with Chris Minneci and skiing siblings Chris and Matt Collins. In the past five years, the group played a key role in developing gap jumps like Chad's and Pyramid in Grizzly Gulch, up the road from Alta. Now those jumps - over roads, pits, or gullies, some with landings on piles of mine tailings - are helping attract the next generation of athletes. "Gaps had obviously been done before, but Utah made them famous," Cattabriga-Alosa says.

Some good POV footage that won't make you nauseous.

The difference between bad and good helmet cam footage is all about the stomach. If watching it makes you feel like you're on a boat lost at sea, it's not good. This footage, selected by freeskier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa as the top entries in TetonGravity.com's V.I.O. POV ski and snowboard contest, is better than good. “After years of working with various POV set ups I have found that there are many factors that go into a sick shot," Sage says.
