Canton, MA, Aug. 17--The managers of Ragged Mountain, N.H., won the bid to operate Blue Hills, Mass., for the 2000-2001 season. While a site-specific permit probably won't be finalized until the end of the week, the Metropolitan District Commission of Massachusetts voted to accept Ragged's bid.
Ragged went into the deal with the understanding that long-term operation of Blue Hills for the 2001-2002 season and beyond would be open for bid next year as well.
According to Al Endriunas, president and co-owner of Ragged, planned improvements include a new snowmaking system, new surface lift, new grooming equipment, upgraded lighting and lifts, an improved rental fleet and base lodge improvements. A cross-promotions plan is also in the works to attract Boston-area skiers and snowboarders to Blue Hills.
