Salt Lake City-based photographer Jay Beyer shoots and skis mainly in Utah’s Wasatch backcountry. But we found Jay recently riding the Collins chairlift at Alta ski resort. We spoke to him about what a backcountry skier was doing at the resort, why he switched from snowboarding to skiing, and tips for shooting photos on stormy days.

Every local has their favorite watering hole and every ski town has some great ones. While we can’t guarantee that a visit to one of these bars will give you that warm fuzzy, “I’m home, mom” feeling, we can say that if you’re looking for a warm place with cold beer to end up when your day is finished, these fine establishments should be at the top of your list. A few images from the recent storm that pummeled Utah ski resorts. Some resorts claimed as much as 48 inches from the weekend system, a necessary addition to the base before holiday skier traffic.

Ski photographer Lee Cohen created Altaholics Anonymous in 1983, when Utah's Alta ski resort received 244 inches of snow in one month. He launched a website to sell his goods a few years ago, and he's recently added a few more products. Interview by Caroline Gleich.
