I'm OK, You're OK: Need a ski buddy? Try a binding that talks to you via a LCD screen. Atomic's new EBM (Electronic Binding Management) system uses wireless communication between the toe- and heelpieces to prevent prerelease. The EBM checks forward pressure, DIN setting, battery status, maintenance needs, when the binding was last adjusted and whether you're locked in—flashing an icon if anything's awry. For instance, if your binding isn't engaged, the word "OPEN" is displayed. And when all is well to drop into Corbet's, the LCD screen reads "OK." Now if only your fate could be so easily confirmed.
