After seven years on the drawing board, Lange's inventive Rear Release System (RRS) is a reality. It's designed-drumroll, please-to reduce the risk of ACL injury. Mounted on the rear of the cuff, RRS is an adjustable spring-loaded mechanism that releases when the skier leans too far back (often a precarious knee situation). When the cuff is released, forward lean goes from 15 to zero degrees, theoretically reducing loads on the knee. RRS will appear in two models next season, the V 9 (pictured here)and V 9L ($599).
