Arapahoe Basin, CO, Feb. 9--The annual cardboard derby was a rollicking success this year at A-Basin. Sunshine, snow, and the promise of a spectacle brought about 10,000 people to the event, held last weekend.
This year, resort officials limited the number of cardboard crafts to 150 (last year there were over 200). Although there were fewer ships, they were no less creative--from makeshift cars to a giant lobsters to a version of the Empire State building, which was the winner.
Event organizers will throw two recap parties for locals this week: Wed. Feb. 19 at the Wynkoop Brewery in Denver, from 7:00-9:00 pm, and Thurs. Feb. 10 at Tulagi's in Boulder, also from 7:00-9:00 pm.
