Ski engineers rue the necessity of bindings, because bindings have traditionally mucked up the flex of a ski by creating a flat spot underfoot. But you can't very well ski without bindings. Tyrolia's Free Flex system-a bridge between heel and toepiece that forces the ski to flex underfoot-has been around for a decade, but it's always been a lunker. New for 2000-01 will be the addition of Super Light technology to the free-flexing equation in the Cyber SL 110 (shown above; price not available).
