Skiing: What was the highlight of last season for you?
Tim Russell: Making it into the X Games. I was just coming off an injury so I didn’t really ski well – I broke a couple of ribs hitting urban rails before the comp.
Skiing: What are your goals for the upcoming year?
TR: I’d like to qualify at the second stop of the DEW Tour. I’ like to do well in the US Open, the North American Open. Pretty much any Slopestyle contest, I want to do well in.
Skiing: What do you think about the DEW Tour’s entry into winter sports?
TR: I think it’s really good for our sport and something that we needed for a long time. It’s going to give outside viewers a better perspective on what we do.
Skiing: What do you think about the format?
TR: It’s hard because it’s so early in the season for a Slopestyle event and to have to qualify in one day for all three events doesn’t really make sense to me. But I guess everyone is in the same boat.
Skiing: Of the new crop of skiers, who are the ones to watch this year?
TR: Matt Walker, Henrick Harlow, Tom Walish
Skiing: What about women skiers?
TR: Michelle Parker is really good. So is Sarah Burke.
Skiing: Besides comps, what are your big plans for this winter?
TR: I will be shooting and filming in Utah, Oregon, Squaw and I’ll be doing backcountry, park and urban shoots.
Skiing: What is your biggest accomplishment?
TR: Probably establishing myself in the ski industry and skiing for a living. It’s always been my dream. Its very rewarding to work so hard at something you love to do then having the outcome be getting paid for it. It’s cool.
Skiing: Is there anything you are really into at the moment?
TR: Hanging out with friends and skiing every day. Playing “bags.” (Some type of beanbag game)
Skiing: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
TR: Chicken Wings.
Skiing: Tell us something people don’t know about you, but should.
TR: I am really hard working when it comes to skiing. I like to cook a lot.
SN: Anyone you’d like to thank?
TR: Scott USA, Volkl, Tecnica/Marker, Skull Candy, Bern Helmets, Level Gloves, Spyder, Ogio.
