C.R. Johnson at Whistler, B.C.

We don't have many details from today's accident, but we do know that Tahoe-based pro freeskier C.R. Johnson—an accomplished X Games and U.S. Open competitor who starred in many ski films—died today during a crash off the Light Towers at Squaw Valley. Sincere condolences to his friends and family. C.R. was a talented skier who had a large impact on the ski community for many years. He was 26 years old.

In 2005, C.R. sustained a severe head injury after colliding with another skier while filming at Brighton, Utah. He was in a coma for over a week and in a Utah hospital for over a month, but he made a speedy and complete recovery and was back on skis the following winter.

Here’s a clip of C.R. from Matchstick Productions’ Seven Sunny Days. He will be missed.
